Music

I am getting really tired of all my favorite music. I need something new to listen to especially at work. Any suggestions ?

Don't worry! Help is on the way. I am in the process of making you a mix. For tomorrow I'll bring you something to tide you over. Hugs!

What Catherine would suggest

Smash Mouth.

At least, the stuff they have on the Shrek soundtrack really does it for Catherine....

Maybe Barenaked Ladies? (Catherine really likes "Pinch Me".)

Set up a Launchcast station (http://launch.yahoo.com.). Rate a few of the artists you like, and it'll start playing those plus similar stuff. I hear great new stuff from it all the time.

Also, if you're in an alternative mood, try 97X (http://www.woxy.com/), a wonderful station that was founded in Oxford, Ohio, and now is internet-only.

Lately I've listed to Cirrus a lot. The album "Counterfeit" manages to have just the right amount of eurotrash techno for a guy who doesn't normally listen to eurotrash techno. James McMurtry is good. Buddy Guy's last two albums have been scary-good. Gord recently turned me on to John Coltrane - not exactly original of me but very good. Wes Montgomery is good for seriously laid back jazz that doesn't turn your brain into knots but which doesn't descend into kitsch either. Always check out the local talent: Asylum Street Spankers, Guy Forsyth, Wammo, Toni Price...too many to name, really. Hop on a time machine with the Ohio Players. And my own fallback when nothing else will do, of course, is Queen.

Penelope Swales "Homemade Wine"
Melissa Ferrick "Skinnier, Faster, Live", "The Other Side"
Ani Difranco "Living in Clip", "Recknoning/Revealing", "So Much Shouting, So Much Laughter"

The new Norah Jones that we put into my car's CD player.

Bond

My friend Sharjinka introduced me to an all girl group named Bond. They all play classical instruments & do kind of techno-cheeze remixes of all kinds of stuff, from Mozart to Led Zeppelin. No lyrics, just music. Upbeat & fun, but as I said, cheezey. Great if you like cheeze. Maybe annoying if you don't.

What sort of things do you already listen to? I have TONS of possible suggestions, but it's more about knowing what you'd be open to...

Something for the ages..

May I recommend some George Winston? He plays solo piano and his musical choices are quite good. The best CD to begin with is Forest (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000NKL/qid=1094360715/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-4539133-6214569?v=glance&s=music).

Hope that helps.. :D
